Moment of Truth, History and Australia’s Future
Today marks the release of the latest Quarterly Essay, headlined by ‘Moment of Truth, History and Australia’s Future’ by Professor Mark McKenna of the University of Sydney.
‘Moment of Truth’ suggests that Australia is on the precipice of vast social change if politicians and citizens can come to a consensus on our contentious national narrative.
The essay suggests we need a moment of truth, if we have any hope of moving forward as a nation in a way that’s liberating. And the first steps of that national journey need to be Constitutional Recognition and ‘Truth-telling.’
Professor McKenna spoke with Nic about the driving force behind the essay and why Australia cannot continue to accept the status quo when it comes to our conversation about our history.
