12 Stringed Guitars, T.S. Eliot and ‘Dance To Graceland’ with Ant Gallery

I can still remember the day I stumbled across Sydney based band, Ant Gallery for the first time. I had tagged along to a gig at Lazy Bones with a mate, keen for a night out and a pint or two. After a while, I found myself among a growing crowd for a band I’d only ever heard of through Instagram – Ant Gallery.

I had bumped into the guitarist James earlier, and after a chat, he’d described them as ‘Big Thief meets Fleetwood Mac.’ Bold claims. I was intrigued. While my interest was piqued on the basis of my love of other artists, I stayed for the amalgamation of genre and sound that is Ant Gallery.

Made up of two sets of siblings, Ant Gallery work together in such harmony that it’s hard to tell where one sound starts and another begins. Twins Joely and Micaela Osfield, and bearded brothers Jack & James Fitzgerald Sice are all multi-instrumentalists, songwriters and singers – and when put together, they deliver a masterful performance.

Their new single ‘Dance To Graceland’ is a feat – a homage to Paul Simon’s Graceland, and the poetry of T.S Eliot. Emerging from the end of a relationship, the ‘journal entry of self exploration’ dives into her emotions, inner dialogue and self-exploration. Once it was taken to the band, it spiralled into an intricate and full bodied track that leaves room for every member to showcase their musicianship.

James, Joely and Micaela sat down with Jas from Dream State to chat all about their high school music teacher, recording the song is Tasmania and their debut single ‘Dance to Graceland’.

Listeners were also treated with a gorgeous in-studio rendition of ‘Dance To Graceland’, which is available to listen to here.
