Community Radio’s Role in Australia

Our community station, 2SER 107.3, has been delivering diverse content for forty years now, as a not-for-profit broadcasting organisation. Community radio plays a very important part in our media landscape by making sure communities not adequately represented by other broadcasting arms have their interests represented. But, how then do community radio stations run? If we’re non-profit, how are we funded? What role does community radio play in Australia? Here to answer these questions is someone who’s no stranger to our airwaves – Steve Ahern, an international broadcast training consultant, broadcaster, author and media commentator. You may recognise him as our Acting Managing Director here at 2SER, before our current managing director Martin Walters took over the role last year.
