Starting close to home, Out of Focus is the latest release from Sydney band, Grinding Eyes. As their third studio album, Grinding Eyes doesn’t hold back any usage of guitar pedals, keeping their dark psychedelic shoegaze atmosphere thick as ever. The leading single ‘We Move Slowly’ has a pulse that’ll get heads bobbing along with its soaring electric guitars and lighter tone. Grinding Eyes have a couple shows coming up – one on the 11th of April at The Trocadero Room – if you’re itching to hear them live.
For a new release with a nostalgic sound, look no further than Annie & The Caldwells and their debut album. Can’t Lose My (Soul) is a groovy disco/soul/gospel record that calls back to 70s with it’s powerful vocals and incredibly tight rhythm section. Honestly, the funkiness of this album can’t be conveyed without plainly listening to it. The family band is lead by Annie Caldwell and her husband, Willie Joe Caldwell, on the guitar – while their children take up the bass, drums and backing-vocals. They’ll be in Sydney and performing at the City Recital Hall on the 5th of June.
