Starting off in Kauna/Adelaide with the long-awaited debut record from Twine. Twine have been garnering alot of attention over the last couple of years for their incredible live shows and their debut album is an unusual yet brilliant combination of tightly wound noise rock and alternative, warped country. New Old Horse undulates through patches of explosive angst and cathartic release, exploring metaphoric themes of depression, sexual tension, sharehouse living and childhood. Originally begun in 2021 by frontperson Tom Katsaras as a loose solo project, a collective of Adelaide’s finest coalesced to form the current lineup. This is far from easy listening, however their command of their sound is undeniable and it all comes together as a virtuosic whole. An incredible group, and this is out today on Dinosaur City Records.

Back in Eora/Sydney, vocalist and multi-intrumentalist Jessica has just released her third solo album, Letting go is letting in. Entirely self-produced and recorded, Letting go is letting in is a hauntingly beautiful one, featuring watery piano lines, hypnotic orchestration and ethereal duplicated vocals interspersed throughout. Lyrically the album is themed on inner strength, renewal and growth, and how ““surrendering old patterns, beliefs, and  emotional baggage”. A fantastic independent release.

Given it’s silly season, you were probably on the lookout for a gospel/ funk video/ game soundtrack/ album, right? Right? Grandmaster, the Austin-based ten-piece have heeded the call with a debut, self-titled album just for you. This one is full of surprises, an extravanza that jumps around between EWF and Parliament-inspired burners, stoner rock, 70s-era blue note jazz and Nintendo video game scores. Grandmaster have been hitting it on the one for over a decade and growing love and support across public and college radio in The States. This one is out now on the excellent Spaceflight Records and worth hitting, not quitting.

There’s much more out this week on the 107.3 airwaves (check the list above), but special shout to longtime friend of 2ser, Xavier Bacasch (Sonny Ism), who has just released the debut single under new moniker Now Always Fades. Into the Doldrums is a reference to the windless, liminal space experienced by sailor’s near the equator, and stylistically is a beautifully rendered piece of grainy and dreamy trip hop, also featuring vocals by Lillibeth Hall of squaring Circles.
