Looming large for us this week are local scone-rock auteurs Lord Esme, who just recently released their beautifully understated debut record “A nice sit down” on Half a Cow records. Recorded in their loungeroom with the help of Hospital Hill Studios, it’s a joyful and humorous take on jangle-pop and our feature album this week.

It’s a big week for international releases as well, with the second full-length from The Smile. Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner have once again teamed up for an alluring trip through highly evocative experimental rock that veers between the calming and the mournful. Future Islands are back with “People who aren’t here anymore”, their first studio album in four years. Self-described as post-wave (a combination of post-punk and new wave), it’s an emotionally rich hit of  synth-pop with typically excellent production from Steve Wright.

“Ancestor” is the latest single from Filipino, Murrawarri and Ngemba producer and rapper Dobby who is building up to release of his debut record, Warrangu: River Stories in June. A song exploring connection with land and water as well as resilience across a crisp west-coast electro-boogie beat. An artist who is on fire at the moment, Dobby caught up with 2SER Breakfast for a chat that and much more.
