Starting with a release from overseas, the experimental dance-punk band, Snapped Ankles has released its fourth album. Hard Times Require Furious Dancing manages to sound futuristic while still feeling like it could have been made in the 80s. There’s heavy employment of all kinds of synths and bleep-bloop noises that solidify that retro-futuristic ambience. If the 1920s was considered roaring, then the 2020s should also require some furious dancing that Snapped Ankles can supply the soundtrack for.

If you’re looking for something a little more laid-back than electronic mania, Frollen Music Library‘s compilation album 001-015 might hit the spot for you. The jazz-funk trio hails from Naarm/Melbourne and creates sample packs for a producer to employ. However, don’t let that put you off, since there’s something for everyone over the 28 tracks, whether it be a hip-hop inspired jive or a synth leading video-game-esk vibe. The only downside to the sample library is that the tracks only run for a minute and a half on average.

Locally, the garage rock’n’roll band Dumbells have released their debut album! Up Late With Dumbells is a fun record filled with all sorts of riffs and hooks to keep you nodding along. Their sound is a sort of mishmash of all sorts of r’n’r bands, however, that doesn’t take away from the fact that each track is catchy in its own way.

If you’re a fan of Mac DeMarco’s thoughtful indie guitar tracks, check out Regular Spread‘s single Love Maker. It’s a charming little track from their upcoming album, TIMELAPSE, to be released in June.
