Tinariwen have recently returned with a beautiful compilation of rarities and unreleased archived recordings. Adrache (Traces of the past) feels more like a complete album from the Taureg (Algeria and Mali) collective who originally formed in 1979. Self-describing their sound as Assuf (trans: “Longing” or “Homesickness”) they have long been an in-demand group for their live performances. It’s out now on the Wedge label.
Keeping with “from the vaults” compilations that are in effect new albums, Naarm duo So.Crates have just released their own, B-Sides and rarities. Their first main release since their acclaimed 2022 record “Malcolm after Mecca”, it’s a fantastically compiled release, filled with luxuriously produced beats and grooves (thanks to chief producer Skomes) along with the slick and soulful lyricism of Cazeaux O.S.L.O and various guests. Samping everything from 80s boogie and brazilian records, it’s a hot tip for the more laidback summer months and worth diving into.
