7 DEADLY SPINS : DJ SHAN

DJ SHAN FRENZIE’s ALL-AUSTRALIAN ‘7 DEADLY SPINS’ MIX

On Wednesday April 22nd 2020, 2SER’s Jumping The Gap show was chuffed to have DJ Shan from the station’s long-running Groove Therapy show as special guest for its 7 Deadly Spins segment. It’s an irregular guest spot where selectors from all over the globe pick exactly seven slices of 7″ vinyl to create a mini-mix with some kind of  theme. Over the last 10 years we’ve had some fantastic mixes and themes, with everyone from; Katalyst mixing up seven 45s he found in carboot sales while traveling through Europe’s Eastern Bloc, to London’s Jazzman Gerald cobbling crazy crackly covers together; Aussie soul seductresses Miss Goldie and Georgie Groovescooter serving up sets themed around poverty and astrology respectively; and memorable 45 mixes from Germany’s Tobias Kirmayer (Tramp Records) and Hawaii’s Roger Bong (Aloha Got Soul). DJ Shan took the concept in a fresh direction with a non-linear all-Australian selection featuring sample/library records and obscure poetry pressings, cutting back and forth between the same 7 records for a frenzied, scratch-heavy, hip hop style mix that showcases his turntable skills.
