Living in the NSW Drought

Up to 90% of NSW is in drought. Though wool and meat prices are healthy, farmers are finding their land too dry to support their livestock and feed too expensive to truck in from interstate. These conditions have resulted in farmers having to cull their stock and accumulate more debt just to get by – and it is taking a toll mentally and materially.

Thankfully, there are people out there who help. Brian Egan, co-founder of Aussie helpers has been helping for 15 years, providing struggling rural families with feed, services, groceries and a virtual psychologist service. He joined Tess on 2Ser Breakfast to share some insight on how tough it is for some out on the land, how the stigma of talking about your mental health amongst farmers is reducing, and how you can help out those in strife.
