Why Have Weddings Become So Extreme?
There was a time when weddings were associated with first dances, kisses at the altar and “I do’s”. But today, for many, wedding’s are associated with nervous havoc – planning, money, venues, decor, tiered cakes and expensive clothing. A website called ‘easywedding.com’ surveyed 5,600 Australian couples, finding that the average total cost of a wedding is $32,940. And, according to the ABS, 68% of couples receive financial assistance from either their parents or the bank in order to afford it. Yes – all for a wedding.
To talk about why we spend so much money on our weddings, Tuesday Daily’s Ruby Innes was joined by Associate Professor Lawrence Ang from the Department of Marketing at Macquarie University.
