Advanced AI Requires Advanced Regulation
Artificial Intelligence has captured the imagination of storytellers for decades. From Terminator to 2001: A Space Odyssey, the perils and possibilities afforded by the technology is constantly being discussed. But the reality is that AI are in everyday life, and not just in the forms of Siri or Alexa. Big businesses are increasingly reliant on AI and algorithms to determine decisions and solve problems that affect all of us.
But with more responsibility, more regulation is required. While we may not be at the level of a Skynet style catastrophe, issues like the government’s recent Robodebt scandal show that AI can fail, and cause problems for the everyday citizen.
To find out more about why this regulation is needed, and what it may look like, The Daily Host Willy Russo spoke with Monique Mann, Senior Lecturer at Deakin University.
