Say it loud, and there’s music playing… say it soft, and it’s almost like praying

The name Stephen Sondheim rings clear, whether loud or soft, over the bright neon lights on Broadway. This weekend, the beloved composer celebrated his 90th birthday. The man’s won an Oscar, a Pulitzer, an Olivier, and eight Tonys and Grammys each. You might know his work from West Side Story, Gypsy, Company, Follies, Pacific Overtures, Sunday in the Park with George, Assassins, Into the Woods – the list goes on, and he wrote them all. Here to discuss his enduring legacy is Ms. Mara Davis, PhD candidate in Musical Theatre and Lecturer in Performance Studies at University of Wollongong.
