China’s New Tariff on Barley

On Tuesday 19th May China introduced a new tariff of 80% on Australian Barley imports, in what some say is a retaliatory move after Australia publicly pushed for an independent inquiry into the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.

China is the biggest export market for Australian Barley, and this new tariff is sure to have a massive impact on Australian farmers.

Matthew Madden, NSW Farmers Association Grain Committee Chair, joined Breakfast to talk about the impacts on Australian farmers.
