The Post Truth Era: Is It Our Job to Monitor Misinformation?
At the end of last month a story circulated about NASA finding evidence of a parallel universe where time runs backwards. But the funny thing is, after the story had already done the rounds on social media it was later revealed that this story was less about actual evidence and more about a hunch.
It is moments like this that get us thinking about misinformation and how it spreads like wildfire on the internet. With social sites, like Twitter taking it upon themselves to vet their platform, even from President Trump himself, it begs the questions who’s job is it to monitor misinformation? Is it up to the community, individual, the social site or our media outlets to fact check?
