Can the Environmental Sector Aid Our Economic Recovery?
The environmental concerns we are faced with are difficult to ignore – climate change, declining species, land loss and bush fires to name a few… And a pandemic that arguably reflects humanity’s poor relationship with the environment. Some have called COVID-19 a wake-up call; a time to seriously think about how we can do things differently. Another major concern with the rapid rise in unemployment is job creation and economic revival. Could environmental and economic solutions potentially go hand in hand? The Daily’s Willy Russo spoke with Lachlan Howell – PhD Candidate in the School of Environmental and Life Sciences at the University of Newcastle – about the policy decisions New Zealand is taking on this front. Including investing in the creation of “nature jobs” as part of their innovative Wellbeing Budget. Could Australia be looking to create jobs in a similar way?
