Are Taxis Covid Safe?

During the pandemic you may have been like many who ditched public transport for more private options.

While this may have felt like a safer option, on Monday NSW Health announced that a Sydney taxi driver had worked while infectious with COVID-19.

While contact tracers worked quickly to notify any at risk passengers, an extra challenge came in locating passengers who didn’t book or pay for taxis with their credit card. As summer approaches, the demand for these services will rise, but are they COVID ready? Do taxis offer an essential service for the people of NSW during the ongoing pandemic, or are there better alternatives? To discuss this we were joined by Dr Fiona Stanaway a clinical epidemiologist and senior lecturer at the University of Sydney.
