The Chinese Mooncake festival, also known as the Mid-autumn festival is coming up on the 1st of October Thursday 2020 where traditionally, people were expected to travel back to their hometowns and celebrate the festival with their families. The most well known part of this mid-autumn celebration are the moon cakes that people love to eat. The most popular fillings for these mooncakes come in either a lotus seed paste or a salted egg. But what is the story behind this popular festival, and this year how will the moon cake festival be celebrated differently? Joining us was Chinese Studies Professor Ying Jie Guo from the University of Sydney. Here he is also the Chair of the Chinese Studies Department and has authored a number of works focusing on China’s National identity.
