The Impact of COVID Relief Payments Ending
We are just under a month away from losing the rest of the job seeker and COVID supplement payments. This boost in welfare money has given many Australians a chance to survive COVID but as the unemployment rate is still rising, cutting Jobseeker may leave many stranded. Though the government says it is open to temporarily extending the supplement, they will not disclose any amount or will make any decision until December arrives. A recent report by Deloitte found the end of these supplement payments will cost the economy $31 Billion due to reduced household spending. 2SER was joined by Wayne Sonter from the Australian Unemployed Workers Union.
