After an eventful two month transition period, Joseph R Biden has officially been sworn in as the 46th president of the United States, taking office at a moment of profound economic, health and political crises that have wreaked havoc and discord, and completely galvanized the nation.

In his inaugural address to the nation, President Biden called for unity and a return to the ordinary discord of democracy amongst a nation that has been ravaged by the pandemic and is still extremely divided.
