Adobe Flash’s Silent Impact on Gaming

Adobe Flash is the software used to create the majority of the browser games we played in IT class when the teacher wasn’t looking. Unfortunately, the folks at Adobe have chosen to phase out the entire Flash platform, and made it obsolete at the end of 2020.

Whilst the platform is obsolete, all the unique, creative, provocative and impactful stories and games created using Flash are not. Yet, because of Adobe’s decision to pull the plug, they are no longer able to be played anywhere online or offline, and sadly exist only in our memories.

These flash games have had a silent impact on us, the players, but also the culture of gaming. Ruby spoke with Alex Walker, editor at Kotaku Australia, to tell us how.
