Taxpayer funded Animal Testing
Australian taxpayers have been paying for what has been described as ‘Frankenstein-like’ experiments on non-human primates. In a 6-month-investigation Fairfax revealed that medical experiments were being conducted on non-human primates in secret at a number of Sydney hospitals and universities. Many of these primates were reportedly bred solely for the purposes of these experiments. One of these many experiments reportedly involved a baboon being euthanized after it underwent a transplant with a pig’s kidney – which NSW Health has denied. Greens Senator Lee Rhiannon is campaigning for more transparency on animal testing and to ban the importing of primates for research, she spoke to The Daily earlier today
