A confirmed positive case of COVID-19 in the remote town of Walgett is among six new cases of the Delta variant identified in Western NSW by health authorities. It comes as the region made up of eight communities stretching from Dubbo to Bourke enters a week of stay-at-home orders. As more cases are identified worry is heightening over the potential for the virus to spread in vulnerable populations including in Indigenous Australian communities which make up forty percent of the population of Walgett.
