Press Freedom and ASIO
It’s often said that one of the cornerstones of a good democracy is a free and unbiased media, certainly it’s something we like to tell ourselves here at 2SER. But with all the recent fears over national security we’ve seen Press Freedom come under threat with one section of the ASIO Act that threatened to lock up journalists if they disclose information relating to an ASIO “special intelligence operation”. But it seems common sense has prevailed and the law is being amended to something a bit more in-line with democratic expectations. Michael Bradley, a Managing Partner at Marque Lawyers, came on The Daily to explain this law.
