Australian churches offer sanctuary to asylum seekers
This week we’ve seen the country’s premiers appealing to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to let the Australian-born children of asylum seekers stay here. And they’re not the only ones – churches around Australia have announced they will offer sanctuary to these families.
But is sanctuary legal? And does it matter, given the alternative?
