Home quarantine needs more than technology for success
Queensland is the third jurisdiction in Australia trialling home quarantine for returning residents, following suit from South Australia and New South Wales. While Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanette Young announced the trial, there are significant and strict restrictions to those quarantining at home, such as using an app with GPS and facial recognition technologies.
While the technologies are evolving to be safer, experts are concerned on how these technologies will be used to breach public health orders. In addition, the governments are not trustworthy when talking about apps. As an example, the COVIDSafe App from the Federal government was brought to avoid outbreaks, and now it is a failure.
