Is self-exclusion actually effective for combatting gambling addictions?
In Australia, gambling is big business.
If someone identified they had a gambling problem, the natural next step would be to sign a self-exclusion agreement that bans them from gambling areas in venues, or even entire venues themselves.
In theory, this system is effective. However, in practice it relies significantly on gambling venue’s staff and their ability to recognise these people from a single photo and handle situations that they don’t really have much training in.
So in reality, how effective is self-exclusion?
