Current homelessness funding only offers short term solutions
Young people are overrepresented in homelessness statistics, with people under 25 accounting for over 40% of homeless people, especially in our urban areas. Despite these statistics, though, Mission Australia believe that current funding models aren’t properly addressing homelessness issues, and only address problems in the short term. This is particularly striking when it comes to youth homelessness – an area where risk factors such as family conflict and mental illness are already well known.
Speaking to us about how homelessness funding may be improved was Mission Australia’s NSW State Director, Ben Carblis.
