Novak Djokovic Visa Cancellation: A Dangerous Precedent?
Last week, the world’s number one men’s tennis player Novak Djokovic lost his visa appeal and was deported from Australia. The 10-day saga came to an end when Immigration Minister Alex Hawke used his ministerial powers to cancel the unvaccinated Serb’s visa on “health and good order grounds”.
While there was mainstream support behind the decision to deport Djokovic according to a Sunday Age survey, legal experts are concerned that this decision has set a concerning precedent for the future.
