When talking about France, we might think of fresh baked baguette bread, the great monuments, its unique culture, cheese, red wine and accordion music. Everything is always romantic and chic when talking about France. But of course, that’s not all. Did you know the French are eating 30 000 tonnes of snails each year? but only about 1,000 tonnes of this classic French delicacy (served with garlic, parsley and butter) actually come from France; and only some 100 registered snail farms existed in France in 2015. If you’ve eaten snails in France, chances are they were plucked from the fields and roadsides of Eastern Europe.
