Melbourne Hip Duo So.Crates provide the feature album for the next 7 days on 2SER with the latest record Malcom after Mecca. Serving up a sound that draws heavy influence from golden era hip artists like De La Soul and a Tribe Called Quest, while presenting a uniquely raw and original sounding record. Throughout the album, Piano samples, live trumpet and vocal embellishments are all fused together to produce a cosmically soulful and authentic piece of work from Melbourne based Producer Skomes and California-via-Adelaide MC & poet Cazeaux O.S.L.O who make up the duo that is So.Crates.

Slipping into the world of Psychedelia, we’ll be hearing tracks spun from local fuzz lords The Lazy Eyes debut album Songbook. Showcasing a wrath of hypnotic riffs that are burnished with dreamy vocal harmonies, the Sydney outfit have truly cemented their position in the ever growing psychedelic scene in Australia. Also being spun from today is the debut EP from a band that emanate powerful guitar driven rock, Sydney four piece Sweetie with their EP Collison. Emotionally charged lyrics and looming jangly guitars float throughout the debut release from the local post punk group.

Shifting back to shimmering psychedelic sounds we have the 20th album from Melbourne Psychedelic rock outfit King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard who never fail to impress with their ability stay immensely creative. Omnium Gatherium is an album that’s filled with sonic arrangements dripping with mystical middle eastern melodies that are influenced by Turkish funk and 70’s prog rock.

Hector Morlet voice glides with a velvet softness in Music for Squares, the debut EP from the Perth Artist is brimming with warm synths that are pushed along by a chugging rhythm section and dreamy samples that makes it almost impossible not to bop your head along to. Jeanines will also be heard this week on 2SER, the NYC indie rockers have released a record that’s bursting with bright and punchy tunes that are led by the wailing vocals of lead singer Alicia Jeanine, whose vocal style has a distinct 60’s feel to it.

Sound shifting British electronic DJ Floating Points is back with a new track that grows ominously, the pulsing electronic dose of sound is titled Grammar. Again from Annie Hamilton is another single your ears will be blessed with throughout the week on 2SER, haunting vocals from the Sydney singer songwriter are glazed with sun drenched guitar melodies and synths that drizzle onto Annies voice flawlessly.

Endearing indie rock is heard from LA group Automatic in their recent release Venus Hours, crispy call and response vocals lines are met with a chugging bass line that underpins the whole track from the trio. Cyclone Mavis provides a head bopping indie pop tune in their new single Wisteria Hysteria, lyrically the song tackles the struggle to escape the suffocation of gender roles in today’s society. An ambient slow burner is heard in Melbourne songwriter BATTS single ‘Blue’, hauntingly beautiful harmonies with collaborator Sharon Van Etten’s verses in the track. All this and much more going onto rotation at 2SER from today. Tune in throughout the week to hear.
