The Nauru Files: Why Don’t We Believe Victims Of Abuse?
59 reports of assault on children, 30 reports of self-harm involving children and 159 reports of threatened self-harm involving children. These figures are enough to make one sick to the stomach and reach out to help those children. Except it doesn’t. Last week the Nauru Files were released by the Guardian in the largest cache of files to be leaked from the detention centre regime highlighting the maltreatment of refugees located there. Dr Bianca Fileborn, Research Fellow at La Trobe University joined us on the show to talk with us about The Nauru files and why don’t we believe victims of sexual abuse?
