Coarse Language: Taboo Or Socially Acceptable?

Australia is known for its laidback culture and use of causal swearing. It has become apart of the normal vocabulary for some Australians and between July 2015 and June 2016, NSW police issued more than 1,836 on-the-spot fines (known as Criminal Infringement Notices) for using offensive language. Pop culture has changed the definition and context of particular dirty language, however the question lies is pop culture having an impact on attitudes to swearing in the courtroom? The Daily was joined on the line by Elyse Methven, Lecturer in Law at University of Technology Sydney, discussing Australia’s legal view of swearing.
