The Problem With Paracetamol
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is holding an online public consultation till the 14th of October 2022 to help advise the administration on how best to tackle the problem of young people overdosing on paracetamol, while attempting to maintain easy access to the headache sparing drug.
Paracetamol poisoning causes liver toxicity which can be treated effectively but only if the patient gets treatment in a timely manner. If not treated within 8 hours permanent liver damage is the best case scenario and death in the worst case . 40-50 Australians succumb to paracetamol overdoses every year.
