PNG parliament votes to keep Prime Minister O’Neill
How will the no-confidence vote that resulted in Prime Minister Peter O’Neill remaining in power affect Papua New Guinea?
Papua New Guinea has had a tough few months, from a credit rating downgrade to widespread protests, leaving tensions are running high.
Earlier this year, citizens of Papua New Guinea protested for the resignation of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to allow police to question him over official corruption charges which date back to 2014.
But on Friday, the country’s parliament voted to keep Prime Minister Peter O’Neill as their leader. The no-confidence motion failed with 85 votes to 21.
