The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners has made a call for change to the reproductive healthcare system to improve access and affordability for rural Australians.

RACGP made a submission to a senate inquiry into universal access to reproductive healthcare this month, where they highlighted barriers faced by rural communities in accessing contraceptives and abortions.

These recommendations included extended access to telehealth, additional medicine for doctors to prescribe for termination, Medicare patient rebates for intrauterine device (IUD) insertion, and incentives for GPs who wish to train in surgical abortion and insertion/removal of long-acting reversible contraceptives.
