No Plans for NAPLAN?
NAPLAN is just around the corner. Students from Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will put pen to paper for the nation wide standardised testing, which are said to provide essential data crucial for initiating improvements in our education system. However, claims have resurrected this week undermining NAPLAN’s relevance. Many say it serves little use, while others have said the emotional pressure the tests induce, are inappropriate for our kids. Calls have surfaced for parents to withdraw their children from the tests if their kids aren’t keen, with reminders circulating that NAPLAN, contrary to common perception, is not compulsory.
The notion that parents should do the math and figure out if its right for their kids, is gaining in momentum, empowering parents to retrieve autonomy back from the government and control what their kids do and don’t do.
The Daily discussed NAPLAN and its controversy with Clare Crew, Head of Thriving Children Australia.
