From the Nauru Files to state-sponsored doping in the Russian Olympics team – the world’s attention is focussed on what has been dragged out of the darkness. Aside from a few high profile exceptions (Snowden, Manning, Assange), whistleblowers themselves are often left behind. The Border Force Act spells out the immediate consequences for anyone who speaks out – two years imprisonment – but what other long term ramifications do whistleblowers face?
