Its been bloody hot these past few days but hopefully this week’s new music will help you cool down with some banging new tunes.

First up we have this weeks feature album here at 2sSER Radical Romantics, the third studio album by Swedish artist Karin Dreijer or Fever Ray! Radical Romantics has a uniquely dark mechanical take on pop music with an interesting exploration of the myth of love, with powerful sweeping melodies and often intense and jilted sonics. It’s an onslaught at times, but one that captures you into Dreijers unique sense for punctuated rhythms and dynamic bursts of synthesised sounds.

Next up is Mango EP from veteran Brisbane beatmaker ALI the GREAT. With crunchy boom-bap beats and a loose swing accompanied by quality rhymes about consciousness and hope these tracks will have you dancing in no time. For fans of Guilty Simpson and Space Invadas. Check it out on Spotify.

Melbourne four-piece Flyying Colours has also released their third studio album You Never Know. Beautifully arranged shoe-gaze and guitar pop sounds that fly with cascading melodies and a general tone that is unashamedly nostalgic. Shifting between a direct lyrical style and washed out instrumental cuts, the overall warmth and tone of this album stays true right throughout. A fantastic record. For fans of Cocteau Twins, Alex G, and Big Thief. 

Local Illawarra group The Morning Star has released their debut album Songs of the Morning Star this week. This is an excellent alt-folk LP that combines plain and direct storytelling with experimental deviations in sound and arrangement, whilst never entirely breaking free of it’s evocative and dreamlike haze. For fans of Workhorse, Babitha and Alannah Russack’s Entropy Band. Check it out and support local music!
