What are Human Rights Today?

Human rights aren’t some exclusive thing that only some members of our global world should enjoy… In theory, they should be universal. And we have agencies, like the UN, structural agencies that are endowed with the responsibility to sustain international human rights.

But given our current situation, a situation where we are faced with the worst refugee crisis since the second world war – how have our notions of human rights changed? Are our strides toward equality only for the benefit of some, more than others?

Randa Abdel-Fattah. Author, former lawyer and PhD Candidate from the Macquarie University Department of Sociology, joined The Daily to highlight the topic of Human Rights.
