Resisting Tyranny: Melbourne Neo-Nazi protests and the rise of the far-right

Recently, you may have seen the neo-nazi demonstrations outside Parliament House in Melbourne. Their message contains a toxic mix of xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia and white nationalism, and feels to be a part of a global trend. In response, the Victorian government is pushing ahead with its bill to ban fascist imagery, in particular the infamous roman salute. However, are blanket, knee-jerk reactions really the answer to fighting this kind of dangerous and insidious rhetoric. To talk more about this, Alex spoke to Professor Greg Barton, chair of Islamic global politics and member of the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation at Deakin University, to talk more about this issue.
