Student Amenities Fee, What Is Used It For?
If you’re a student, or have been in the past, you know about student amenities fees – it’s the $140 odd you have to pay the uni each semester, but what for exactly? A lot of people aren’t sure. With the term amenities in there, is it a fee for maintaining bathrooms on campus? It’s not. Grapeshot magazine, Macquarie Uni’s student publication recently published an article in their latest issue which outlined Macquarie University’s handling of these fees, which amass to around 5 million dollars each year – and has highlighted some major issues with transparency and student involvement. Grapeshot’s editor in chief, Angela Heathcote, joined us on the show to unpack the article and it’s findings.
