Film: Rye Lane
Raine Allen-Miller’s directorial debut is a romantic comedy set in South London, following and encounter between Dom (David Jonsson) and Yas (Vivian Oparah) in a bathroom at an art exhibit all about mouths. Set in one day, Dom and Yas leave the exhibit together and and learn that they are both coming out of broken relationships. As the day moves on they get wrapped in hijinks involving ex partners and blossoming romance, Rey Lane is very funny, touching and illuminating.

Television: Savage River
Miki Anderson (Katherine Langford) returns to her Victorian hometown after serving 10 years in prison. The rural community she comes home to isn’t welcoming and the satin of her manslaughter conviction doesn’t make her any friends. When another murder occurs soon after her arrival, the townsfolk are quick to point fingers at the woman they think is most likely. While Miki burdens the accusations and mistrust of those around her, she sets out to prove her innocence from this ghastly crime.
Savage River is out now on ABC iView. Watch the trailer here.
Television: Reboot
Created by Steven E. Levitan (Modern Family, Just Shoot Me!), this comedy follows the child stars of a fictional sitcom who are brought back together as adults for a reboot of their show. Starring Keegan-Michael Key and Johnny Knoxville, Reboot sends up the vacuous and creatively bankrupt strategies of studio’s rehashing old content, poking fun at writers desks and the nature of producing television. Ironically Reboot has been cancelled after only 1 season, which may just be the icing on the cake of this satirical series.

Album: The Whaler, Home is Where
The second album from Florida based emo band Home is Where brings the anxiety riddled musicianship back to the forefront. Featuring great lyrics with tremendous energy, the record is a cathartic concept album, with songs referencing everything from 9/11 to escaping the drudgery of unpleasant mindsets. The emo and indie rock hybrid features a few screams, as to be expected, and continues Home Is Where’s stellar track record.
