Seventeen new animals into the threatened species list

The Federal government has added 17 more animals to the ‘threatened species list’ just ahead of Christmas.

Some of the animals are native to Far North Queensland raising questions around how the most recent floods will impact vulnerable populations.

While the most recent additions are mostly reptiles, birds, and fish, there’s a drop in the wider insect population.

Summer usually brings out more insects, but global estimates show steep declines.

One insect that’s particularly close to politics is the Bogong moth, which migrates through Canberra each year, to get to cooler alpine regions.
