Playing Favorites by Sheer Mag

The Feature Album this week on 2SER is Playing Favorites, the third album from Philadelphia rock band Sheer Mag. 

 

The four-piece’s first record with Third Man Records, Playing Favorites teems with electrifying hooks, fiery vocals from frontwoman Tina Halladay and the upbeat swing of well-crafted power pop.

Halladay explained:

“Nobody seems to write straight up rock bangers anymore — more than anything else, we want this record to put huge, catchy songwriting front and center.”

Not one to be confined to any musical box, Sheer Mag dart from disco-inflected pop to swaggering rock at the drop of a hat, all the while keeping good on Halladay’s promise for big, catchy songwriting. Playing Favorites also marks a deeper emphasis on existential storytelling, spinning lyrics about life on the road, the luck of being in love and the misfortune of losing it.
