When it comes to beauty standards, is lightening more than skin deep?
In western countries, our obsession with skin tanning is well recognised. However, flying more under the radar, is the desire from certain communities to lighten their skin. Skin lightening products, while more common overseas, have also made their way onto Australian shores.
So, what is driving certain groups toward skin lightening? And, what does this say about ideal beauty standards? Sean Britten to Dr Elaine Laforteza, a cultural studies academic from UTS.
