Dutton takes aim at second and third generation immigrants

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton has sparked backlash with comments that took aim at the government of Malcolm Fraser and second and third generation Lebanese immigrants. During Question Time, the minister claimed, “The reality is Malcolm Fraser did make mistakes in bringing some people in the 1970s and we’re seeing that today.” Are the comments as extraordinary as some people including Opposition Leader Bill Shorten have claimed, or consistent with the Turnbull government’s stance on asylum seekers and immigration?
