Vice President Kamala Harris has garnered the delegates she needs at the Democratic National Convention to be nominated by her party in the wake of Joe Biden’s not unexpected decision to drop out from the race. withdrawal of his candidacy. 

Her ascension to Democratic nominee has already fostered a sharp increase in donations, with her campaign saying it raised $US81 million ($122 million AUD) in the first 24 hours following President Joe Biden’s decision withdraw his candidacy and endorse her. 

However,  some in Democratic circles and other commentators are questioning whether or not Harris capable of defeating the increasingly popular Donald Trump.
