Loneliness afflicts nearly 1 in 3 Australians
None of us are a stranger to the feeling of loneliness. For some of us it is a daily experience. A recent study shows nearly one in three Australians feel lonely, and one in six experience severe loneliness.
In Australia, a recent study showed that the highest rates of loneliness were among those aged 18-24….38% reporting loneliness.
The World Health Organization has declared loneliness a global public health priority. It links loneliness to depression and suicide, and an increased risk of cognitive decline and dementia. In Australia, Loneliness afflicts nearly 1 in 3 of us.
