Durian: The king of all fruits despite it’s unique odour

According to an article published by CNBC, Durian has grown by 400% in the international market due to China as its demand has exploded by 12fold from the year 2017. But the fruit has been banned from various places like hotels and even public places due to its difficult smell. An article published by Healthline described the fruit as a rousing medley of “sulphur, sewage, fruit, honey, and roasted and rotting onions”.

However, the fruit has immense significance in Southeast Asian culture, as it is considered a symbol of abundance in Indonesia and is cherished in Malaysia in the backyard as trees of food, medicine, and shelter.

Dr. John Ryan, an Adjunct Associate Professor, Faculty of Business, Law and Arts, Southern Cross University joined the daily host Nelson Scott to discuss more about this topic.
